M-Systems' DiskOnChip Integrated Within Broadcom's Industry-Leading 802.11g — 54g — Wireless Access Point and Router Reference Designs

Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

FREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 20, 2004

DiskOnChip's Capacity, Performance, Data Integrity and Security

Enable the BCM94704AGR to Offer New Services and Features

M-Systems (Nasdaq:FLSH) today announced that its DiskOnChip(R) flash disk has been integrated within Broadcom's latest secure wireless access point and router reference design, the BCM94704AGR, a key member of Broadcom's top of the line 802.11g (54g(TM)) wireless access point and router reference designs.

DiskOnChip offers an attractive cost/capacity solution for wireless access points, routers and residential gateways requiring 128 Mbits or more of non-volatile flash memory storage. Additionally, DiskOnChip offers increased performance, data integrity and security, as well as a flexible and future-proof hardware platform for the deployment of a myriad of new services and features into the Small Office & Home (SOHO) as well as Small & Medium Business (SMB) space for many years to come.

"Broadcom's integration of DiskOnChip into the 54g(TM) line of wireless access points and routers reference designs provides our customers with a very cost effective solution," said Bill Bunch, senior marketing manager, Wireless Networking, Broadcom Corporation. "OEMs and ODMs can now market the benefits of 128, 256 and 512 Mbits of M-Systems' DiskOnChip with minimal cost. These new capacities allow for the introduction of new services and features that will meet the expanding needs of wireless LAN users."

M-Systems' DiskOnChip was selected because it provides the functionality of a hard drive in a small, solid-state chip and is a complete, monolithic, high-performance local storage solution that offers a superior cost structure and increased stability for connected devices which typically used NOR flash in the past. It also offers additional features such as boot capability, a unique ID, customized protected partitions and a one-time programming (OTP) area for ROM-like storage. M-Systems' line of embedded DiskOnChip products offers unrivaled advantages, such as a significant increase in density, breakthrough cost, unmatched reliability and peak performance. DiskOnChip is based upon M-Systems' TrueFFS(R), the award-winning, industry-standard flash file system.

"Integration into Broadcom's leading-edge reference designs is a clear recognition of DiskOnChip's inherent advantages over existing standard flash components," said Noam Kedem, vice president of business development and marketing, M-Systems, Inc. "This collaboration with Broadcom allows M-Systems to gain a significant position in the fast growing broadband communications market, and lets Broadcom deliver further technology advantages to its broadband networking customer base."

Broadcom's Wireless LAN Product Family

Broadcom's high performance wireless LAN product line includes 54g(TM), the world's most popular 54 Mbps Wi-Fi technology. In addition to transceivers that provide IEEE 802.11b, 802.11g and dual-band 802.11a/g solutions, Broadcom integrates wireless network processors, communications technologies and OneDriver software solutions into reference designs that speed customer time to market. Broadcom partners are developing Wi-Fi client solutions, access points, routers, cable modems, DSL modems, Bluetooth(R) solutions and GPRS cellular products.

All of the wireless chipsets in the Broadcom product line enjoy unique performance advantages that improve throughput and range via Broadcom's SmartRadio(TM) technology. In addition to advanced signal processing techniques, the all-CMOS solutions are capable of self-calibrating based on usage temperature and other environmental conditions, reconfiguring constantly for optimum performance. Competing radios are statically calibrated at the point of manufacture and are unable to adapt to changing environmental influences.
