If you've considered signing up for a VoIP (Voice over IP) service (see Talk is Cheaper), but have wavered so far, check out the latest deal from 8X8, Inc. (www.8x8.com). For $99 (after rebate) you get the Packet8 VideoPhone that has previously been available for $499 street ($250 direct with rebate and service plan). In addition the company has reduced their monthly service fee from $29.95 to $19.95. The $19.95 package includes unlimited voice and video calls to other Packet8 VideoPhones as well as unlimited local and long distance calling anywhere in the U.S. or Canada.

Sound too good to be true? Well there are a couple of catches; a $29.95 activation fee and you must sign up for a 24-month service plan that carries a $299 early termination fee. As with all Packet8 services, VideoPhone service comes with a 30-day money back trial.

Existing Packet 8 VoIP customers will receive a $10 dollar per month reduction in their monthly invoice starting May 1st 2005. They may also purchase the VideoPhone service, but this will require a new 24-month service agreement.
